Open Serious Game: How Cognitive Biases affect the User Experience

Founders, professionals, and enthusiasts! “Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I will remember. Involve me, and I will understand forever.” With this ancient Confucian aphorism, we welcome you to the very first Open Serious Game in Poland! THE CONCEPT Open Serious Game is a movement whose purpose is the creation and sharing of learning experiences that are free and reusable (Open), useful in the context of one’s professional life (Serious), and fun (Game). THE GAME The Open Serious Game we will be playing is the Cognitive Quiz - a game designed for you to learn about Cognitive Biases and Behavioral Science applied to the field of User Experience. Would you like to understand why your users behave the way they do? Would you like to influence their often irrational behaviour? Do you want to discover if you are yourself rational in your decision-making? Then the Cognitive Quiz is for you. THE SPEAKER Our speaker will be Rodrigo Serrano, a freelance trainer based in Paris and creator of the game. Rodrigo will be sharing with us the ideas behind Open Serious Games and will then officiate as a game master. THE AGENDA The event will start with brief presentations of Startup Community Poznan and of the Open Serious Games movement. Then, the game will start with an Icebreaker, in which you will get to meet some of the fellow players. You will then meet your teammates and cooperate with them to solve certain ‘riddles’ coming from the research in the fields of cognition and behavioural science. Your team will get points for finding the correct explanations to those riddles and their application in the field of UX. There will be plenty of time to share your ideas both with your team and with the rest of the group.
